Yes — two complimentary international lounge visits a year, and Federal publishes them without any spend criteria attached, on a card with no joining fee and no annual membership fee. Several cards in this catalogue charging four figures a year do not offer unconditional international lounge access, so this is the card's strongest single feature.
3x rewards on travel and international spending, 2x on dining and 1x on everything else. Federal uses the same 3x-2x-1x structure on all three of its cards and points it at different categories; on the Celesta it points abroad.
The foreign currency markup. It is 3.5% — the same as Federal's other cards and the industry standard — on the card whose 3x tier is international spending. So the card pays its best rate on spending it also charges the full market rate for. For low-cost foreign spending, cards like the ixigo AU at 0.99% or the Kotak Air+ at 2% are the better tools.
Two complimentary domestic visits a quarter, unlocked by Rs. 60,000 of spending in that quarter — about Rs. 20,000 a month. That is the highest bar of Federal's three cards; the Signet needs Rs. 20,000 for one visit and the Imperio Rs. 40,000 for two. The international visits, by contrast, need no spending at all.
This one, and not only for the reward tiers. It is the only one of the three with international lounge access, and those two visits a year are unconditional. If you fly internationally even once a year on a card that costs nothing, the Celesta is the Federal card to hold.
Federal publishes no joining fee and no annual membership fee and describes that as a limited-period offer rather than a permanent term, as it does across its range. Confirm the status on the application page on the day you apply.
Federal gives the Celesta two complimentary international airport lounge visits a year, and publishes them with no spend criteria attached. The card itself has no joining fee and no annual membership fee.
That combination is rare at any price in this catalogue. Most international lounge access sits on cards charging between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 1,10,000 a year, and a good deal of it is gated behind quarterly spending. Two unconditional visits on a free card is the single clearest reason to hold this one.
The Celesta's 3x tier is travel and international spending. Its foreign currency markup is 3.5% — the same as Federal's other cards, and the market standard.
So on a foreign transaction the card is paying its best reward rate while charging the full market rate for the privilege. Whether that nets out positive cannot be calculated, because Federal does not publish what a reward point is worth. If cheap foreign spending is the goal rather than points, the ixigo AU card at 0.99% and the Kotak Air+ at 2% are the better instruments, and the first of those is also free.
They cost the same — nothing — and share the same 3x-2x-1x structure, so the decision is only about categories and lounges. Signet: electronics and apparel at 3x, entertainment at 2x, one domestic lounge visit a quarter at a Rs. 20,000 bar. Imperio: healthcare and groceries at 3x, utility bills at 2x, two visits a quarter at Rs. 40,000.
Celesta: travel and international at 3x, dining at 2x, two domestic visits a quarter at Rs. 60,000 — plus the two international visits that need no spending at all. For most households the Imperio earns more; for anybody who flies, the Celesta's unconditional international access is worth more than the difference.
