One Free Night Award, which HDFC values at 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points, plus 10 Elite Night Credits and Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Against a Rs. 3,540 fee charged on day 45, a single free night at a Marriott group hotel will usually be worth more than the fee on its own.
One further Free Night Award at each of Rs. 6 lakh, Rs. 9 lakh and Rs. 15 lakh of eligible spending in an anniversary year. So a holder spending Rs. 15 lakh collects four free nights in a year including the joining one. Those are high thresholds — about Rs. 50,000, Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 1,25,000 a month — so for most holders the joining night is the one that counts.
24 visits a year across the Diners network: twelve complimentary accesses within India at both domestic and international terminals, and twelve outside India. Unusually, the access extends to add-on cardholders as well as the primary, which doubles its practical value for a couple.
8 Marriott Bonvoy Points per Rs. 150 at participating Marriott hotels, 4 per Rs. 150 on travel, dining and entertainment, and 2 per Rs. 150 on everything else. The points go straight into a Marriott Bonvoy account rather than a bank rewards catalogue, which is what makes them usable for stays and upgrades.
Salaried Indian nationals aged 21 to 60 with a net monthly income over Rs. 1 lakh, or self-employed Indian nationals aged 21 to 65 with an annual income over Rs. 15 lakh as per their ITR. The upper age limit of 60 for salaried applicants is tighter than most cards in this catalogue.
It can be. Diners Club is accepted at fewer Indian merchants than Visa or Mastercard, so the card is best held alongside one of those rather than as a only card. The lounge programme is the other side of that coin — Diners lounge access in India is extensive, and it is where 24 of this card's visits come from.
One Free Night Award, which HDFC values at 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points, arrives on joining alongside 10 Elite Night Credits and Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. The fee is Rs. 3,000 plus taxes — Rs. 3,540 — and it is charged on the 45th day after the card is issued rather than at application.
A night at a Marriott group hotel in India at 15,000 points is commonly worth several thousand rupees, so for a holder who will actually use it the first year pays for itself before any spending. Three more Free Night Awards follow at Rs. 6 lakh, Rs. 9 lakh and Rs. 15 lakh of eligible annual spending, but those are thresholds of roughly Rs. 50,000, Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 1,25,000 a month.
The card gives 24 complimentary airport lounge visits a year across the Diners network — twelve inside India at both domestic and international terminals, and twelve outside India. Outside the two cards in this catalogue with unlimited access, that is the largest allowance here.
What makes it unusual is that the access extends to add-on cardholders rather than the primary alone. Almost every lounge benefit in this catalogue is primary-only, so for a couple travelling together this is effectively double the allowance of a comparable card.
Two things. The income bar is over Rs. 1 lakh a month for salaried applicants and over Rs. 15 lakh a year by ITR for the self-employed, with an upper age limit of 60 on the salaried route — tighter than most cards here. And the base earn rate away from Marriott is 2 Bonvoy Points per Rs. 150, so this is not a card to put general spending on.
The third is acceptance. Diners Club is taken at fewer Indian merchants than Visa or Mastercard, so the card works best alongside one of those rather than alone. The flip side is that Diners lounge access in India is extensive, and it is exactly where this card's 24 visits come from.
