Which credit card gives the highest credit limit in India?+
No Indian issuer publishes a credit limit, so no honest ranking exists. The closest published signal is the income a card asks for: Shoppers Stop Black HDFC Bank asks Rs. 1,50,000 a month and Swiggy BLCK HDFC Bank Rs. 1,00,000, and cards with higher income bars underwrite larger limits. The only limit you can know in advance is on a deposit-backed card, where it is about 80% to 90% of your fixed deposit.
How is a credit card limit decided?+
From documented net monthly income, usually two to five times it for a first card, minus your existing EMIs and the limits already available to you on other cards, then adjusted for repayment history and your relationship with the bank. This is why a Rs. 1,50,000 salary with Rs. 60,000 of EMIs can get a smaller limit than a Rs. 80,000 salary with none.
How can I increase my credit card limit?+
Ask after six months of clean use — most issuers review on request and many approve without fresh documents. Submitting a current payslip is the most effective single step if your salary has risen since you applied. Use the card meaningfully and pay in full, and do not ask twice within six months.
Does a high credit limit improve my credit score?+
Indirectly, yes. Scores weigh the share of your limit you use, and above 30% the score suffers. Rs. 30,000 of monthly spend on a Rs. 50,000 limit is 60% utilisation and holds your score down; the same spend on a Rs. 2,00,000 limit is 15% and helps. An unused limit is not wasted.
Can I get a high credit limit without a high salary?+
Yes, through a deposit-backed card: the limit is roughly 80% to 90% of the fixed deposit you open, with no income test at all. Deposit Rs. 5,00,000 and the limit is around Rs. 4,00,000 to Rs. 4,50,000. It is the one reliable route for anybody whose income is hard to document.
Is there a downside to a high credit limit?+
Three. Lenders count your total available unsecured credit as potential debt, so a large card limit can shrink the home loan you are offered. Over-limit transactions cost around 2.5% of the excess plus GST if you opt in. And a larger limit is a larger loss window if the card is compromised.
Does an EMI use up my whole credit limit?+
It blocks the full purchase amount, not the instalment, releasing month by month as you pay. A Rs. 60,000 EMI on a Rs. 1,00,000 limit leaves about Rs. 40,000 of headroom for the tenure, which is why limit headroom matters more for EMI purchases than any published rate does.
