With no file to read — a first card, a student, somebody newly earning — or a score too low for an unsecured card, the route that actually works is a card issued against a fixed deposit. You place a deposit, the limit is set as a percentage of it, and the deposit is the issuer’s security instead of your score. Income documents are usually not asked for at all.

The part people miss: a secured card reports to the bureaus exactly like any other credit card. Six months of using it and clearing the statement in full builds the history that an unsecured card asks for, and the deposit keeps earning interest the whole time. It is not a lesser product; it is the same product with the risk moved.

An unsecured card advertised with no score and no deposit required is worth real suspicion: the cost is usually in joining fees, annual fees that are not waived, or an interest rate well above the 3.5% a month that is already standard. Applying to several issuers at once is the other mistake — with no history, each declined application is the only thing on your file, and the next issuer sees it.

The quieter route worth asking about first: the bank that already holds your savings or salary account. It can see money arriving every month, which is better evidence than a document from a stranger, and several issuers will offer a card on that basis alone.
